Violin

Laura Miller has been a member of the Lyric Opera Orchestra since 1984, and holds the position of Assistant Principal Second Violin with the Grant Park Orchestra. A former member of the Music of the Baroque and Chicago Philharmonic Orchestras, she began her career by winning a one-year position with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Laura began her musical studies on the piano and started violin lessons with Clemens Faber of the Cleveland Orchestra, continuing with Margaret Randall and David Cerone at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from Indiana University as a student of Distinguished Professor of Music, Josef Gingold. Additional studies included summers at The Meadowmount School of Music, The Sarasota Music Festival, The Tanglewood Music Festival, and The Colorado Music Festival, serving as Assistant Concertmistress of the CMF Chamber Orchestra.

As a chamber musician, Laura frequently collaborates with colleagues, especially in the Violin/Harp repertoire and has performed the Brahms Horn Trio on numerous occasions. She has been active in the Chicago recording studios, performing on many national television and radio commercials.

Laura was honored to have been selected as a featured artist in Lyric's OperaShop for the 2018/19 season. Her jewelry designs were inspired by the beautiful Civic Opera House and the operas of the season!
