The Britain-based scenic and costume designer is a recipient of the Tony, Drama Desk, Olivier, Evening Standard, Critics’ Circle, Garland, Falstaff, and Ovation awards for his work in both the U. K. and the U. S. Theater credits include Peter and Alice, Macbeth (Manchester International Festival, New York’s Park Avenue Armory); Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (New York); A Streetcar Named Desire, Othello, Grand Hotel, Red, King Lear, Passion, Parade, Frost/Nixon (Donmar Warehouse); Man and Superman, Summerfolk, Danton’s Death, Stuff Happens, Power, The Marriage Play, Finding the Sun (National Theatre); Evita (also New York); Guys and Dolls (Piccadilly); King Lear, The Seagull (Royal Shakespeare Company, also world tour); and Wolf Hall/Bring up the Bodies (Royal Shakespeare Company, London and New York). Opera credits include Billy Budd (Glyndebourne, Brooklyn Academy of Music), The Marriage of Figaro (Glyndebourne, Houston), Madama Butterfly (Houston), and Don Giovanni (Metropolitan Opera).
