British Conductor Tess Jackson is the Associate Conductor of the National Youth Orchestra. She studied Music at Cambridge University, latterly undertaking a Masters in Conducting with Sian Edwards at the Royal Academy of Music. Whilst there, Tess also worked with Semyon Bychkov, Edward Gardner, Sir Mark Elder, and John Wilson.

Recent highlights include her debut at the BBC Proms with the National Youth Orchestra, and conducting John Kander's Cabaret at Volksoper Wien — where she has been a Musical Assistant in the 2023/24 Season. In April, Tess made her debut at both the Royal Festival Hall and Liverpool Philharmonic Hall with the National Youth Orchestra in Gavin Higgins' Concerto Grosso for Brass Band and Orchestra.

Her acclaimed jump-in for Smetana's The Bartered Bride at Garsington Opera led to the invitation to make her symphonic debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra next season. Other forthcoming highlights include a special project at the Berliner Philharmonie in a program including Schumann's Symphony No. 4 and a festive program with the brass of the London Mozart Players. Future opera plans include West Side Story at Volksoper Wien and her debut at the English National Opera with The Marriage of Figaro.

Tess was invited by the Royal Philharmonic Society in association with the Royal Northern Sinfonia at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music to participate in a conductor mentoring program. She was awarded the Leonard Ingrams Award at Garsington and the Regency and Conducting Awards at the Royal Academy of Music.
