Social Media Community Guidelines

We seek to create an online community passionate about opera, that engages in a robust conversation that furthers the art form, and exists as an online space for opera-lovers and the opera-curious to gather, share, learn, and have fun.

We ask that users treat each other with courtesy and respect at all times, particularly during disagreements. We reserve the right to hide or delete any content that violates our guidelines and to block users who share it. This includes:

  • messages that are misleading or false; we do not tolerate the spreading of misinformation
  • messages posted by anonymous or bot accounts
  • deliberate provocation of other community members in the form of intentional trolling, troll baiting or flaming
  • racist, hateful, sexist, homophobic, slanderous, insulting, othering, or life-threatening messages
  • messages that contain name-calling, personal attacks or defamatory statements
  • serious, accusations against individuals or organizations, whether proven or unproven
  • abusive, aggressive, coarse, explicit, vulgar, violent, obscene or pornographic messages
  • messages that infringe on copyrights
  • messages that promote or advertise products or services
  • messages that suggest or encourage illegal activity

All social media activity is monitored by Lyric Opera staff from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time, Monday through Friday. Comments posted outside these hours will be read and addressed as quickly as possible.

We’re grateful to all who help us build a lively, flourishing online community.
