Chicago Voices Concert
Lyric Opera Creative Consultant Renée Fleming and Lyric Unlimited join forces to present Chicago Voices, a multi-year initiative celebrating Chicago’s vibrant, diverse vocal music culture.
A signature event of Chicago Voices is the Chicago Voices Concert, an extraordinary, cross-genre, multi-media event celebrating Chicago's rich and diverse vocal music legacy on February 4th at the Lyric Opera House.
A star-studded array of vocal talent with deep ties to Chicago will pay tribute to the city’s wide-reaching influence across genres including blues, jazz, rock, folk, hip-hop, gospel, and classical music.
The evening will feature performances and unique collaborations by artistic director Renée Fleming, Shemekia Copeland, Kurt Elling, Lupe Fiasco, The Handsome Family, Jessie Mueller, Matthew Polenzani, John Prine, and Michelle Williams. Six video screens throughout the opera house will be used for an up-close view of your favorite singers, plus video shorts that honor Chicago greats including Mahalia Jackson, Mary Garden, Howlin' Wolf, Curtis Mayfield, and more.
Music director for the concert is five-time Jeff award winner Doug Peck. Civil rights activist and founder of Operation PUSH Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. will serve as a special guest presenter during the concert, along with Kate Flannery (NBC’s The Office), Terrence Howard (Crash, Hustle and Flow, FOX'S Empire), and Jussie Smollett (FOX's Empire).
A unique, eclectic performance that is sure to be one of the highlights of Chicago’s cultural season, join us for Chicago Voices Concert, and celebrate the glory of the human voice in its many sounds and styles. Learn more about the year-long Chicago Voices initiative at chicagovoices.org.
