Check Out the Cast for Lyric’s Premiere of WEST SIDE STORY!
Lyric has lined up a terrific cast for the company premiere of West Side Story. The brilliant musical by Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, and Jerome Robbins that has thrilled audiences for more than 50 years is coming to Lyric May 3 – June 2.
Broadway stars, international singing sensations, and exciting new faces take on the roles of Tony, Maria, Anita, and Bernardo along with the rest of this powerful West Side Story ensemble.
Lyric’s West Side Story cast includes sensational Broadway star Corey Cott as Tony; BBC Proms and Kennedy Center star Mikaela Bennett as Maria; internationally renowned dancer, singer, and actress Amanda Castro as Anita; Broadway mainstay Brett Thiele as Riff; and renowned actor both on and off Broadway Manuel Stark Santos as Bernardo.
West Side Story is a coproduction of Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, and the Glimmerglass Festival. James Lowe will conduct the production featuring members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Chorus.
Lyric’s West Side Story premiere will be directed by the internationally acclaimed Francesca Zambello, who also serves as general director of the Glimmerglass Festival. The coproduction sets are designed by Peter J. Davidson, with costumes designed by Jessica Jahn and lighting designed by Mark McCullough. Jerome Robbins’s thrilling original choreography will be recreated by Julio Monge.
