All Hail Renée Fleming!
Renée Fleming is one of the most brilliant and beloved artists of our time. We’re so lucky at Lyric that she’s starred in ten leading roles with the company, headlined many concerts, and served since 2010 as our first-ever creative consultant. All of us at Lyric treasure her artistry, just as we treasure the humanity that has made her such a glorious presence here since her debut 25 seasons ago. On March 23 we’ll celebrate Renée’s extraordinary relationship with Lyric in an unforgettable concert, featuring many of today’s most renowned artists.
Renée’s performance history with Lyric bursts with glorious achievements. She introduced herself to our audience as Carlisle Floyd’s passionate heroine in Susannah, and her most recent role was the glamorous, irresistible Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow. In between have been her anguished Marguerite in Faust, her warmly gracious Countess in The Marriage of Figaro, and the leading ladies of Otello, Alcina, Thaïs, La traviata, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Capriccio. In all of these roles we’ve been dazzled by Renée’s matchlessly beautiful voice, by her wonderful gifts as an actress and musician, and the overwhelming charisma that has made her the idol of audiences in every major opera house worldwide.
There have been stupendous concerts, in which many great artists have partnered with Renée on the Lyric stage, as well as other special events, such as the Second City Guide to the Opera (in which she captivated everyone with her irrepressible sense of humor!). And there have been the many projects she’s conceived and executed as our creative consultant with fabulous creativity, dedication, and imagination.
Be sure you’re at the Lyric Opera House on March 23, as we hail Renée and rejoice in her artistry. Many favorite works of operatic and popular repertoire will be performed, with Renée joined by such luminaries as Lawrence Brownlee, Sondra Radvanovsky, Eric Owens, Quinn Kelsey, and Christian Van Horn. These Lyric favorites -- led by Renée’s colleague from Houston Grand Opera, Patrick Summers, conducting the Lyric Opera Orchestra -- will join Renée for an unforgettable evening of great singing, worthy of the great artist who is truly “America’s Voice.”
