What's In Store for Lyric's First-Ever Family Day

Lyric is excited to announce that our inaugural Family Day at Lyric on Saturday, April 7 from 11am – 3pm has reached capacity! With behind-the-scenes demonstrations, activities, and performances, this event will allow children of all ages to get an inside look into the exciting world of opera. 

The event is designed open-house style, giving families the flexibility to arrive at any time and experience the excitement of Lyric at their own pace. Exclusive access gives you a peek at the action that happens during every opera performance. Kids of all ages can awaken their inner opera star when they venture onto the Lyric stage, while those with dreams of being a maestro will enjoy stepping into the orchestra pit. Budding artists and designers will love the chance to try on real costumes. The day also provides an exciting opportunity to take part in a dance session with a creative movement instructor. 

Other hands-on activities include making your own prop, hat designing, experiencing how fight scenes are choreographed for the stage, live singing demonstrations every hour, operatic makeup and face painting, and more. All children will receive a fun and engaging companion booklet that allows them to track their journey through the Lyric Opera House to collect stickers from each activity station. The afternoon features short live performances and demonstrations geared specifically to children ages 5 to 10, plus family-friendly concessions and seated casual dining at the onsite Florian Opera Bistro.
