Chicago Voices: Student Songwriting Workshop
Students chosen from across the city to record in a professional studio!
Lyric Unlimited’s groundbreaking Chicago Voices Community Created Performances program is in full swing for the summer, but that’s not the only exciting event they have in the works for the month of June!
Recently, the Chicago Voices team selected 12 talented high school students from across the city to participate in the Chicago Voices Student Songwriting Workshop. Candidates were asked to apply to the program with their original musical work in a variety of formats — from YouTube videos to SoundCloud files. The application encouraged students to submit all different genres and styles of music, and made clear that applicants did not need any past formal training to participate.
From June 26-30, the students will participate in a free, week-long intensive songwriting workshop at the Lyric Opera House where they will receive one-on-one instruction from composer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Przygoda and performer, composer, and vocal coach Megan Elk. By the end of the week, all participants will have written and recorded their own original song at Mix Kitchen studios, and will receive an electronic copy of their work, which will also be featured on the Chicago Voices website. Lyric is thrilled to continue nurturing the next generation of budding musicians.
