Lyric has two happily-ever-after masterpieces on tap in February. First, Bellini's bel canto favorite I Puritani opens Sunday, February 4. The cast is simply stunning, led by Lyric favorites Lawrence Brownlee and Albina Shagimuratova. Hear more from director Eric Einhorn in this issue.
Rehearsals are also underway for Mozart's beloved Così fan tutte in a production adored by Lyric audiences and critics. You'll want to make sure to treat yourself to this romantic comedy — and battle of the sexes — just in time for Valentine's Day.

The Olympics are coming this February! You may be excited about the athletics that will be taking place in Seoul, but equally as thrilling is the feat of acrobatic vocals that will be coming to Lyric’s stage when I Puritani opens.
Lyric audiences have lavished extraordinary acclaim on Piotr Beczała. The opportunity to sing a solo recital on the stage of the Lyric Opera House is an honor that the company has awarded to few singers in its entire history, and each of these recitals has been a thrilling event for our audiences. You can count on that this season, when Beczała returns to Chicago.
Lyric is excited to bring Così fan tutte to life with a star cast of today’s brightest talent, including the two central couples who will keep the laughs coming and the arias soaring.
This past September, Lyric Unlimited and the Chicago Urban League announced EmpowerYouth! Igniting Creativity through the Arts, a groundbreaking, multi-year partnership that immerses 30 African American high school students in the creation of an original opera based on their life experiences. The first year of the program culminates in the presentation of a fully staged, youth-centric opera which the students will perform at the Lyric Opera House.
Unforgettable music, atmospheric sets and costumes, a compelling story of persistent love melting a frozen heart...Lyric’s performances this month of Puccini’s epic masterpiece, Turandot (featuring the hit tenor aria “Nessun dorma”), are the sure cure for cabin fever, and not to be missed!
The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center will hold its third annual fundraising event, Ladies’ Choice, at The Casino Club of Chicago. Superstar alumna Amber Wagner, music director Craig Terry, and the ladies of the Ryan Opera Center hope you will join them.
