Lyric Family Favorites: May 22
In the midst of so much uncertainty, a tale of good and evil can be very refreshing. This week we bring you the famed “Jewel Song” from Gounod’s Faust, in which the beautiful Marguerite, sung by Ailyn Pérez, is tempted by gifts from the demon Méphistophélès.
And if a little French is what you fancy, we have much more in store. Legends of Lyric: Léopold Simoneau
Take a look back at one of the most exceptional voices to grace Lyric Opera’s stage. French-Canadian tenor Léopold Simoneau was especially well known for his roles in French repertoire and Mozart operas. As Lyric dramaturg Roger Pines puts it, “I guess this is what angels sound like.”

Mezzo-soprano Kayleigh Decker is a recent alumna of the Ryan Opera Center who you may have seen as Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly or as Dorothée in Cendrillon. Hear about how she is adapting to a creative life at home and hear a performance firsthand.

Like a gourmet meal and a fine wine, Lyric’s opera commentaries pair perfectly with nightly streaming opportunities. On Saturday, our friends at The Met are streaming their production of Gounod’s Faust. Lyric mounted a new production of the French favorite in the 2017/18 Season.
