"Excessive Use of Force"—Jessica Meyer
Members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra have been finding new ways to connect with music during the pandemic. For Lyric Assistant Principal Cello Paul Dwyer, that means commissioning several original pieces as part of his project "COVID-19: Contagious Solitude." In this video, he performs a piece he commissioned from New York City-based composer Jessica Meyer. “Excessive Use of Force” is a moving and expressive piece in reaction to the racist police brutality seen across the United States. It was recorded by Dwyer in the days after the murder of George Floyd.
