Lyric’s CHICAGO VOICES Invites You To Share Your Story!
Lyric Opera Creative Consultant Renée Fleming recently launched Chicago Voices, a new, multi-dimensional initiative that aims to create an inclusive platform for celebrating the human voice, while illuminating the legacy of Chicago vocal traditions and amplifying the narrative of everyday Chicagoans. Chicago Voices will engage community members throughout the city in creating performances, master classes and talks about vocal music, and on February 4, 2017, participating in a star-studded gala headlined by Renée Fleming and artists from encompassing blues, gospel, pop, folk, and more at the Civic Opera House.
As part of this groundbreaking program, we’re inviting you to apply now for Chicago Voices’ Community Created Performances and win the opportunity to tell the story of your community through song. Applications are currently being accepted online until March 7, 2016.
We are seeking untold stories – aspects of city life that may not appear on the news or in the papers – about the people and communities of Chicago. Tell us how your community interacts and exists within the city and how Chicago has been a part of defining your community.
Up to ten applicant groups will advance to the semifinal round. Their stories will be featured online for public voting. The three semifinalist groups who receive the highest number of votes will undertake a 16-week creative process to develop an original music theater work.
