Spotlighting the Stars: Ryan Opera Center Alumni Success at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition 2019
The Ryan Opera Center was incredibly well represented by three alumni—Patrick Guetti (bass), Mingjie Lei (tenor), and Richard Ollarsaba (bass-baritone)—in the prestigious BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition held in June. They were among only 20 international semifinalists, and Guetti and Ollarsaba were the only American singers. The three did us proud by performing their best. Both Guetti and Lei won their respective rounds and advanced to the Main Prize Finals—two of the five finalists were Ryan Opera Center alumni—and Lei was announced winner of the 2019 Song Prize. Video footage of their performances is still available to view on the competition website.
We would also like to extend our warmest wishes to current Ryan Opera Center Ensemble members Lauren Decker (contralto) and Mario Rojas (tenor) as they travel to Prague for Plácido Domingo’s Operalia 2019 competition, beginning July 21.
Please join us in congratulating these artists on their great accomplishments!
