Proving Up

Lyric’s production of Proving Up, planned for January 22-30, 2022 at Goodman’s Owen Theatre, has been postponed. Lyric’s cast and creative team were slated to travel for rehearsals beginning the first week of January, and with the overriding priority of keeping our artists, our company, and our audiences safe, we made the difficult decision to postpone the production due to the COVID-19 surge. Lyric plans to reschedule Proving Up in a future season. Ticket holders are being contacted directly and may keep the value of their tickets on account, donate the value, or request a full refund. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to returning to live performances.

Seeing ourselves: new work at Lyric

A new era at Lyric Opera of Chicago: An interview with new Music Director Enrique Mazzola

Enrique Mazzola became Music Director of Lyric Opera of Chicago as of July 1, 2021. The Spanish-born, Italian-trained conductor is only the third person in Lyric’s 67-year history to serve in this capacity, following the tenures of Sir Andrew Davis and the late Bruno Bartoletti.

Mazzoli's compositional skills expand across mediums, as she writes opera, for television and film, and for her band, Victoire. Whether she's writing for a full orchestra or a string quartet, Mazzoli personifies her music with tonal and atonal sounds, replicating how humans interact in relationships.
