Hansel & Gretel in the Park

Public tickets for Hansel and Gretel in the Park are now sold-out. Limited walk-up tickets may become available.

Join Lyric for a unique, musical adventure, journeying through the timeless tale of Hansel and Gretel through the eyes of the title characters themselves. As the famous brother and sister do battle against ever-present hunger, a dark forest, and a dangerous witch, you’ll be guided through a site-specific show with four different scenes in Chicago’s beautiful North Park Village Nature Center. Featuring members of the Lyric Opera of Chicago Chorus and Orchestra, this whimsical story is the perfect introduction to opera for families with kids of all ages. Hansel & Gretel in the Park is free, but capacity is limited and the show does require advance registration for tickets.

Lyric Opera of Chicago is proud to partner with the Chicago Park District for these on-site performances at North Park Village Nature Center. In a partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, non-perishable food items and donations will be accepted on-site as we partner to offer support in ending hunger and its root causes.

Please note that children of all ages must be ticketed for public health and capacity reasons.

  • Original Opera by: Engelbert Humperdinck
  • Arranged by: Simon Bruckard
  • English Translation: with kind permission from Sir David Pountney
