Join Lyric Opera Chicago and the Chicago Urban League for the world premier of The Future Teller, a dynamic Afro-futurist narrative presented by the collaborative performance ensemble EmpowerYouth!.

In this collaboratively devised, multidisciplinary production, The Future Teller explores themes of power, hope, resilience, and finding common ground for the survival of all. Through energetic storytelling infusing song, rap and dance, The Future Teller marks the culminating performance of the 2023/24 Season for EmpowerYouth!.

EmpowerYouth! is a multidisciplinary performance ensemble that strives to learn about the performing arts through the process of creating an original production. EmpowerYouth! is brought to you by the Lyric Opera of Chicago - Lyric Unlimited Learning and Civic Engagement in partnership with the Chicago Urban League.

The story

Journey deep into the biodome city of Chicago, where technology and espionage are a way of life for the ALT DLT, a rowdy group of out-of-domers. The ALT DLT are determined to crack the code of the global corporation Appazon where a future technology known as The Future Teller, awaits to save the world from its own demise.

The Future Teller is within reach of The ALT DLTs. But, will the mission go awry as a group of Appazon teenagers threaten to ruin their plans? Or will The Future Teller unleash a power of its own where the past, present, and the future collide making way for a higher force that no one could see coming!
