KATHRYN HENRY | JENŮFA

The soprano is a second-year Ryan Opera Center member. At the 2023 Aspen Music Festival, she starred as Roxane Coss/Bel Canto. In the summer of 2021, she portrayed Lucy Harker/John Corigliano’s The Lord of Cries (world premiere) at The Santa Fe Opera. The recording of that work by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project recently received a Grammy nomination in the Best Opera Recording category. A former Baumgartner Studio Artist at Milwaukee’s Florentine Opera, Henry appeared there as Barbarina/The Marriage of Figaro, Micaëla/La tragédie de Carmen, and the title role/Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon. As a Toulmin Foundation Scholar at New York’s Juilliard School of Music, she portrayed Arminda/La finta giardiniera. A native of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the soprano has appeared at the Harris Theater’s Beyond the Aria series alongside Lawrence Brownlee as well as with the National Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, and Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She was invited to participate in Carnegie Hall’s 2022 SongStudio with Renée Fleming and Ravinia’s 2020 Steans Music Institute. Henry was a finalist in the 2015 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and the 2018 Houston Grand Opera Eleanor McCollum Competition, among others, and has won awards from the Luminarts Cultural Foundation, the Musicians Club of Women Vocal Competition, and the Opera Index Vocal Competition.

Previously at Lyric: German Diplomat/Bel Canto (2015/16)

The soprano has been a regular member of the Lyric Opera Chorus since the 2007/08 Season, during which she covered two roles in Die Frau ohne Schatten. She portrayed the role of Mother in Lyric’s Hansel and Gretel in the Park (2021). An accomplished soloist, she has performed frequently around Chicago, including seven roles with Haymarket Opera, among them Purcell’s Dido and Costanza in Haydn’s L’isola disabitata.
