This season, 33,891 students attended performances, participated in interactive educational activities, and explored the historic opera house.

16,549 students from throughout Chicagoland area experienced Opera in the Neighborhoods presentations of Rhoda and the Fossil Hunt—a new opera for youth. 30 performances took place in 15 locations across the city and suburbs.

1,786 students journeyed backstage at the Lyric Opera House, explored areas the audience typically doesn’t see, and along the way, learned about the wide array of professional skills involved in bringing our magnificent performances to life.
Over 750 students at 14 Chicago public schools participated in the Elementary Opera Residency program this year and developed original operatic pieces based on their own cultural backgrounds using a variety of activities integrating language arts, music, drama, and performance skills.

More than 200 high school students at 4 Chicago public schools benefited from Lyric teaching artists in the choral classroom on a weekly basis. Lyric chorus master Michael Black led clinics at each participating school.
