Driving directions

The following are suggested routes for driving to the Lyric Opera House.

If you drive on Interstate 290 (Eisenhower) or Interstate 55 (Stevenson) toward the Loop, exit at 90/94 (north). Exit from 90/94 at Washington Street (east). Proceed 5 blocks east on Washington Street to Wacker Drive. The Lyric Opera House is one block ahead on the right (corner of Madison Street and Wacker Drive).

If you take Interstate 90/94 (Dan Ryan) toward the Loop, exit at Washington Street (east). Proceed 5 blocks east on Washington Street to Wacker Drive. The Lyric Opera House is one block ahead on the right (corner of Madison Street and Wacker Drive).

If you take Interstate 90/94 (Kennedy Expressway from O'Hare) toward the Loop, exit at Washington Street (east). Proceed 5 blocks east on Washington Street to Wacker Drive. The entrance to the Lyric Opera House is one block ahead on the right (corner of Madison Street and Wacker Drive). 

Getting to Lyric by train

The Lyric Opera House is conveniently located near both Union Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center in downtown Chicago.

Union Station’s Madison Street exit deposits guests almost directly across the street from their destination. The ADA accessible entrance to Union Station is located on the opposite side of the building near Canal Street. When coming from OTC, exit the building on Madison Street and head east. When you come to the corner of N. Wacker Drive, you will have arrived at Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Getting to Lyric by CTA

Convenient CTA routes include the following “L” subway stations:

Washington/Wells (Brown/Orange/Pink/Purple lines)* — approximately 6 minutes west.

Clinton (Green/Pink lines)* — approximately 10 minutes southeast.

Monroe or Washington (Blue line) — approximately 10 minutes west.

Lake or Monroe (Red line)* — approximately 15 minutes west. 

*Washington/Wells, Clinton, and Lake stations have handicap accessible elevators. Patrons are advised to consult the CTA website and monitor any pertinent accessibility alerts prior to their visit. 


Bus stations near Lyric Opera: 
Bus stops for routes 20, 56, 60, 124, 157, J14 are conveniently located across the street at Madison & Franklin (westbound) and Washington & Franklin (eastbound). CTA buses have mandated accessibility features, including ramps at the front doors for easy entrance/exit and designated priority seating.

Taxis & rideshares

Lyric's transportation plan has designated areas for both taxi and rideshare pick-up. A post-show taxi line forms on Madison Street; wait times may vary depending on taxi availability. Rideshare users who reserve through Uber and Lyft users may direct your driver to pick you up on southbound Wacker Drive south of Madison Street, using the address 10 S. Wacker Drive. Weekday Evenings & Weekend Performances: $13 for weeknights 3pm-2am. Up to 12 hours on weekends.

Weekday Matinee Parking: $25 for up to 12 hours

Discounted parking vouchers must be purchased in advance to receive this special rate. When using a prepaid pass, you must scan it when entering the parking garage. Do not take a ticket, or you will be charged the standard rate. Lyric does not validate parking.

Poetry Garage is handicap accessible. The elevator near Wells Street is closest to Lyric.

Valet parking service is available to Lyric Opera patrons beginning at 5:00pm on performance evenings, regardless of curtain time. For Sunday matinees, valet parking is available beginning at 12:00 noon. We regret that valet parking is not available for patrons attending weekday dress rehearsals or weekday matinee performances. Valet service is $35 and can be purchased ahead of time on Parkwiz.com. If you request valet parking in person on the day of the performance, you must pay with cash.
