Lyric Family Favorites: January 8
We hope you are safe and well, and that we can offer some comfort in the form of beautiful music this week. “Poor Wayfaring Stranger” is a great American folk song. It’s been around for more than two centuries and has been recorded by numerous artists including Burl Ives, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, and Ed Sheeran, among many others. In a new performance from the Ryan Opera Center at Work series, bass-baritone and third-year ensemble member David Weigel sings Steven Mark Kohn’s beautiful arrangement of the American classic.
Plus, listen in on Tuesday as Lyric’s music director designate Enrique Mazzola sits down with WFMT’s general manager George Preston, watch a full stream of Lawrence Brownlee’s unforgettable Cycles of My Being, and see our opera streaming picks for next week.
