The TV special How the Grinch Stole Christmas became an instant classic after its original airing in 1966, and has since found a special place in the hearts of many. With original lyrics by Dr. Seuss himself, one of the most memorable parts of the special is the song “You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.” The unforgettable booming bass voice of Thurl Ravenscroft brings out the wry humor of the song, with its increasingly creative taunts. As part of the Ryan Opera Center at Work series, second-year Ensemble member and bass Anthony Reed delivers a faithfully punchy and humorous take on the song, likely to curl your lips into a grinchy smile of delight.

Art on theMART: Joffrey’s The Nutcracker
A spectacular display, free for the public
This year audiences can enjoy Joffrey Ballet’s The Nutcracker in a different way, projected in a larger-than-life display on the south facade of the Merchandise Mart building as part of Art on theMART. The video Nutcracker will be screened nightly from 7 until 7:30 p.m. through Dec. 30. Watch a preview of the show, and make plans to see it in person.
