Lyric Family Favorites: October 23
After many months of careful preparation and logistics, the Ryan Opera Center ensemble was able to move their coachings and performances to the Lyric Opera House. There are still many precautions necessary every time our artists record, but the ability to rehearse and perform in a professional space has really paid off. So finally, we bring you the first in our new series of videos, “Ryan Opera Center At Work.” Sit back and enjoy as the immensely talented first-year Ryan Opera Center soprano Denis Vélez and pianist Chris Reynolds, pictured above, perform Nedda’s aria, "Stridono lassù," from Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci.
Then, watch a master class with Ryan Opera Center alumna Kayleigh Decker and Lyric favorite Joyce DiDonato (both mezzo-sopranos), support your Chicago arts community, celebrate World Opera Day, check out streaming opportunities for next week, and take in the latest episode of Breaking Down the Score with Maestro Enrique Mazzola.
Carnegie Hall Master Class: Joyce DiDonato
In a master class from Carnegie Hall, Lyric favorite Joyce DiDonato mentors young singers at the beginning of their careers. Mezzo-soprano Kayleigh Decker, a Ryan Opera Center alumna, participated in one of the classes, and she makes beautiful music with mentoring mezzo DiDonato in this episode.
Chicago Acts Together Week

Week of October 26: Streaming opportunities
This week, enjoy new works, politically inspired stories, and spooky music from Royal Opera House, The Metropolitan Opera, and more in our weekly steaming guide.
Breaking Down the Score: Attila with Maestro Enrique Mazzola
Verdi doesn’t waste time, bringing us right into the action as the Roman envoy Ezio meets with the conqueror Attila. The composer allows the bel canto lines to flow uninterrupted as one of the opera’s key phrases is introduced and tension heightens between the opposing leaders.
Tune in each week and be the first to see new episodes by subscribing to Lyric's channel on YouTube.
