Lyric Family Favorites: October 2
We are so excited to share with you the first in a delightful series of videos entitled Breaking Down the Score: Attila with Maestro Enrique Mazzola. In each episode, Lyric’s Music Director Designate shares a personal interpretation and reading of a portion of this opera — which was planned as the next installment in Lyric’s Early Verdi Series — and offers unique insight as a specialist in this repertoire. We’ll be sharing more videos from this series in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more!
Plus, look back at one of the great legends of Lyric, Eileen Farrell, cook something up with famed mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, and check out next week’s streaming opportunities.
Legends of Lyric: Eileen Farrell
During her relatively short performing career of just 11 years, Eileen Farrell enjoyed tremendous success, including appearances at Lyric in the title role of La Gioconda and as Leonora in La forza del destino. Learn more about this Lyric Legend in this tribute from Lyric Dramaturg Roger Pines.
Cooking with Denyce
Did you know that legendary mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves hosts a weekly cooking show? Her delightful series features performances with Graves and other artists plus interviews and — of course — a cooking session!
Week of October 5: Streaming opportunities
In this week’s lineup, we’re headed to The Metropolitan Opera for Wagner week, followed by Wolf Trap Opera’s presentation of Gioachino Rossini’s first opera The Touchstone. Then we’ll enjoy virtual performances from our friends at the Chicago Children’s Choir and Houston Grand Opera.
I like so many different kinds of music that I’ve never allowed myself the limitations of one particular range.
