Lyric Family Favorites: September 11

Soprano Ailyn Pérez has been hailed by The New York Times as “a beautiful woman who commands the stage” and “a major soprano.” In 2012 she won the prestigious Richard Tucker Award, making her the first Hispanic recipient in the award’s 35-year history, and since then she has been in demand at the world’s leading opera houses and cultural capitals. We’re thrilled to hear her perform in For the Love of Lyric, premiering September 13, along with so many other talented singers. Get ready for Pérez’s performance by revisiting her last appearance at Lyric as Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust, as she sings “The Jewel Song.”

Then, check out our tips on how to get the most out of your virtual concert experience this weekend with our family streaming guide, stir up some fun with For the Love of Lyric libations, explore the connections between music and the mind with the latest installment of Renée Fleming’s stimulating video series, and check out next week's streaming opportunities.

Finally, we share with everyone in our Lyric family a heartfelt note of remembrance. Each year on September 11, we are reminded of what we lost so painfully, of the importance of our families and communities, and of our resilience. We wish you peace, and we thank you for making us a part of your life.

“Jewel Song”

“Jewel Song” from Lyric's production of Faust, sung by soprano Ailyn Pérez as Marguerite.

Music has the charms to soothe a savage beast, to soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak.
