Lyric Music & More: January 12
Start your week with this stunning performance from Lawrence Brownlee and Friends: The Next Chapter. The aria “Ah, mes amis” from Donizetti's wildy popular The Daughter of the Regiment is one of the most notoriously difficult in the repertoire. There are eight high Cs written in the aria—generally the ultimate note in a tenor’s range—with another typically added at the end. The piece has become a musical signature for Brownlee, making this a clip you won’t want to miss. Check it out, and then watch the entire concert free.
Plus, watch Renée Fleming, Lyric's special projects advisor, in opera streams all week long from The Metropolitan Opera, hear Krassimira Stoyanova and Quinn Kelsey sing “La figlia, vedi, pentita” from Luisa Miller, create your own “blob opera,” and don’t miss Maestro Enrique Mazzola on WFMT.

“La figlia, vedi, pentita”
A breathtaking duet
Though it seems like a lifetime ago, it was only the fall of 2019 when Lyric presented the electrifying Luisa Miller. Enjoy this breathtaking duet between Krassimira Stoyanova and Ryan Opera Center alumnus Quinn Kelsey from Act III of Verdi's early masterpiece.
Blob Opera
A musical experiment
In a fascinating interactive experiment, artificial intelligence was able to learn from 16 hours of real opera singing, resulting in this delightful tool from Google Arts and Culture. It’s incredibly easy to manipulate, and capable of producing some beautiful music.
