Lyric Music & More: September 7
The opening of the 2021/22 Season is a very important moment for Lyric in more ways than one. Not least of which is the beginning of Maestro Enrique Mazzola’s tenure as recently covered by the Chicago Tribune, only the third Music Director since the company’s founding in 1954. Maestro Mazzola is eager to greet audiences as we all return to the opera house, and he is also keen on pulling back the curtain to show you some aspects of producing a show that might not be as familiar to you. In a new episode of his series “Exploring with Enrique” he takes a look at some of the carefully curated props we’ve collected and used over the years.
Plus, get to know the story of Verdi’s Macbeth, meet The Elixir of Love star tenor Charles Castronovo, see how Pagliacci has permeated pop culture, raise the roof with Amanda Castro, and see how you can be our partner in safety as we return to the theater.
Spotlight on Charles Castronovo
Lyric tenor Charles Castronovo stars as the endearing hero Nemorino in Lyric’s production of The Elixir of Love, opening September 26. See why he is a favorite of audiences at Lyric and worldwide in this spotlight.
Pagliacci in pop culture
Even if you’ve never seen the opera Pagliacci, you’re likely familiar with its main character, Canio, the heartbroken clown. Take a look at all the ways in which Pagliacci has made its way into pop culture, and don’t miss Lyric’s new Pagliacci film starring Russell Thomas!
“Raise the Roof” with Amanda Castro
Amanda Castro wowed audiences as Anita in West Side Story (2019). As part of Lyric's original musical theater concert The New Classics, she filmed this amazing video of “Raise the Roof” from Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party in New York City. Only available through September 10!
Be our partner in safety
As we return to the theater, your safety is our top priority. Every guest will be required to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 and wear a mask while inside the theater. See a full list of our new safety practices and make sure you’re prepared as we return to live performances.
