Lyric Music & More: September 15

The incredible depth of feeling expressed by the performers made us feel like we were back in the opera house with them. With outstanding performances from each and every artist, the concert stood as a shining example of how music can transcend time and place. For months, the members of the Ryan Opera Center ensemble have been working and rehearsing from their individual homes. Now, with the utmost care and safety, they’re finally able to meet at the Lyric Opera House to rehearse in small groups. Hear from the members about what it’s been like to make that transition and what they’re working on now.

Contralto Marian Anderson was an incredibly versatile performer, singing a broad range of styles from spirituals to opera. She was also a trailblazer in the fight for equal representation for African Americans in the arts. Mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves and tenor Lawrence Brownlee perform in a virtual concert as they receive the Marian Anderson Award from the Kennedy Center.
