Lyric Family Favorites: March 12
Today we’re celebrating one of the most engaging sopranos performing right now, the outstanding Ana María Martínez, whose birthday was yesterday. Martínez made her Lyric debut in the 2008/09 Season as Nedda in Leoncavello’s Pagliacci and has been a Lyric favorite in numerous productions and concerts since then. Most recently, she hosted and starred in Pasión Latina, a virtual concert that Opera News called “a sheer aural delight.” If you haven’t watched it yet, start with Martínez’s performance of the wonderfully stirring song “Preciosa” by Rafael Hernández Marín, which will undoubtedly leave you ready for more. Feliz cumpleaños, Ana María!
Then, discover some common myths and truths about the great composer Gioachino Rossini, watch Lyric’s thrilling 2017/18 production of Orphée et Eurydice, and see our weekly opera streaming picks.
De-myth-ifying Rossini
Later this month, Lyric will premiere a virtual series exploring each of Rossini’s string sonatas, a lesser-known set of six compositions from the composer’s early years. See what else you may have missed about the man who wrote The Barber of Seville, Cinderella, and other favorites.
